ABLATIVE BOTTOM PAINTS
Otherwise known as "Soft" bottom paints, these are meant to slough off while moving through the water. As the paint sloughs off, it releases a copper or zinc based biocide that prevents marine fouling. Ablative bottom paints are best used on most recreational boats.
HARD BOTTOM PAINTS
Hard bottom paints don't slough like ablative paints. Instead they contain biocides within a porous film on the surface that prevents any marine fouling from adhering to the surface of your prized possession.
THIN FILM BOTTOM PAINTS
Thin filmed bottom paints take the bottom surface protection a step further by creating a slick surface that prevents marine fouling from adhering to the underside of your boat. These paints are great when speed is your focus.
WATER BASED BOTTOM PAINTS
Water based bottom paints are for the environmentally conscious boater. These paints give you an alternative when a solvent-based paint such as those above aren't an option.
